Andy Freeberg began photographing rock and jazz musicians while attending the University of Michigan in the late ’70s. He was a staff photographer for the Michigan Daily and worked at the Pine Knob Music Theater north of Detroit. Andy also spent three years as the official press photographer for the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
While living in New York City in the early ’80s Andy worked for Rolling Stone, the Village Voice, People Magazine, and shot many covers for DownBeat Magazine. His photographs are in numerous collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the George Eastman House—the world’s oldest photography museum. He now lives in the San Francisco Bay area and concentrates exclusively on his fine-art projects.
